Shaving, waxing and threading can feel endless, and they often cause ingrown hairs, bumps or irritation. Laser hair removal is a medical treatment that can reduce unwanted hair over the long term. At ASH Clinic in F-6 Islamabad, we have five laser and light systems for hair removal. Soprano Titanium is our newest and most comfortable system. It works with gradual heating and is designed for a wide range of skin tones.
Soprano is a laser hair removal system that targets hair follicles with light energy. Instead of relying only on single strong pulses, it can raise the temperature in the follicle gradually as the handpiece glides over the skin. This is designed to keep discomfort low and to suit many skin types, including darker South Asian skin, when settings are chosen carefully.
The aim is long-term hair reduction, not removing every hair forever. After a course, many people see far fewer hairs, and regrowth is often finer and lighter. Some people need occasional maintenance sessions. Results vary.
Different devices suit different skin and hair types, which is why we have more than one. Alongside Soprano Titanium, ASH Clinic offers Candela Nd:YAG, diode and alexandrite lasers, plus IPL (intense pulsed light).
As a general guide:
No laser or light device works well on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair. Your clinician will recommend a system after assessing your skin tone, hair colour and thickness, and the area being treated.
It may suit you if you want to reduce hair on areas such as the face, underarms, arms, legs or bikini line, get ingrown hairs or irritation from other methods, and have hair darker than your skin. We treat most areas of the face and body; we’ll confirm suitability at consultation.
It may not work well, or may need to wait, if:
Hormonal conditions such as PCOS can keep stimulating new hair, so you may need more sessions and maintenance. Your doctor may suggest checking your hormones.
The laser’s light is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair. This turns into heat that damages the follicle’s ability to grow hair, while cooling protects the surrounding skin. This principle is called selective photothermolysis.
Hair grows in cycles, and the laser is most effective on hairs in the active growth phase. Only some hairs are in that phase at any one time, so a course of sessions is normally needed. Your therapist will advise on the interval and number for your hair and skin type.
Every laser session begins with a consultation to assess your skin tone and needs. Your clinician will usually:
Before: you’ll be given pre-treatment instructions, including shaving, when you book. Do not wax, thread, pluck or use hair removal creams for about four weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the hair root. Avoid sun exposure and fake tan, and come with clean skin.
On the day: everyone in the room wears protective eyewear. The handpiece is moved over the skin in repeated passes. Most people feel warmth or mild tingling, and settings can be adjusted if you are uncomfortable. To keep you comfortable, we use chillers, numbing cream on request, and our latest laser systems have built-in contact cooling, so treatment is quick and as comfortable as possible. The upper lip takes a few minutes, while full legs take longer. Treatments are performed by aesthetic therapists trained on each specific system and supervised by a medical officer at the clinic.
Common and temporary: redness, warmth, mild swelling around follicles and slight stinging.
Less common: temporary darkening or lightening of the skin, more likely in darker skin or after sun exposure, and acne-like breakouts.
Rare: burns, blisters or scarring; increased hair growth near the treated area (paradoxical hypertrichosis); and eye injury without protective eyewear.
Please contact us if you notice blistering, crusting or anything that worries you.

It aims for long-term hair reduction rather than removing every hair forever. Many people see far fewer, finer hairs after a course, but some regrowth can happen, so occasional maintenance may be needed.
Soprano is designed to treat a wide range of skin tones, including darker skin, when settings are chosen carefully. Nd:YAG lasers are also often chosen for darker skin. Darker skin still has a higher risk of temporary pigment change, so sun protection matters.

No. Waxing, threading and plucking remove the root the laser needs to target. Shaving is usually fine between sessions.
